Belgian born (Wilrijk) Georges Monfils was raised in Flemish Belgium and Northern France. He later migrated to the States. By his late teens he was living in New York City and his "old world" heritage became fully exposed to the "factory" (Andy Warhol) cult. Imagine the clash of those roots with the imagery of booming "pop". That’s his style; "nouveau pop".

Although being a self taught painter, he got the help and needed encouragement from many well established artists. His unique layering technique fully developed once he changed his medium to acrylic paints. Those he mixes himself and uses some of his favorite Gauguin paintings as inspiration to create his ever growing color palette.

His work confronts us with the same blunt force as that of a child asking about sex. No topic is "off limit"; let yourself be drawn into the subject matter and your imagination challenged, while execution and color engulf you into his world.

De in België (Wilrijk) geboren Georges Monfils is opgegroeid in het Vlaamse gedeelte van België en in Noord Frankrijk. Later emigreerde hij naar de Verenigde Staten. In zijn late tienerjaren woonde hij in New York City, zijn erfgoed van de "Oude Wereld" werd volledig blootgesteld aan de cult van Andy Warhol’s "Factory". U kunt zich de botsing van de beide culturen voorstellen, het greep hem zodanig aan dat hij zijn eigen stijl ontwikkelde: "Nouveau Pop".

Door zijn ervaring als fotograaf had hij een goede visie ontwikkeld op images. Als schilder is hij een autodidact, maar hij kreeg veel hulp en inspiratie van gevestigde kunstenaars. Zo ontwikkelde hij zijn eigen signatuur, wat duidelijk herkenbaar is in ieder kunstwerk dat hij aflevert. Zijn unieke laag op laag techniek kwam nog beter tot zijn recht op het moment dat hij met acryl verf ging werken.

Hij mengt die zelf en is daarbij geïnspireerd door zijn favoriete Gauguin schilderijen om zijn steeds groeiende kleuren palet te perfectioneren. Zijn werk heeft altijd een diepere betekenis en confronteert ons met onszelf. Vergelijk het met een kind dat directe vragen stelt over seks. Geen onderwerp gaat hij uit de weg, niets is "off limit".

Geef jezelf over aan het onderwerp en laat je eigen verbeelding uitdagen. Zijn uitvoering en kleurenpalet overspoelen je en trekken je mee in zijn wereld.

Georges Monfils, né à Wilrijk, a grandi dans la partie flamande de la Belgique et à la frontière franco-belge. Dès sa jeunesse il était déjà confronté à deux cultures. Plus tard il émigra vers les Etats-unis et habitera New York. Ses racines et mode de vie du "vieux monde" furent entièrement confrontés au culte "Factory" d’ Andy Warhol. Imaginez-vous dès lors le choc de ces deux cultures; ce qui donnera naissance à son style personnel "Nouveau Pop".

Son expérience de photographe lui donna et développa en lui une juste vision des images.

Il découvrit la peinture en auto-didacte mais il reçut l'aide et l'inspiration d'artistes confirmés; son propre style naquit, ce qui est clairement reconnaissable sous la signature de chacune de ses oeuvres et son unique technique se manifeste au moment où la peinture acrylique acquiert son droit de cité. Il mélangera celle-ci aux tons que lui inspirent les oeuvres d'un de ses peintres favoris, Gauguin, et il perfectionnera ainsi sa gamme de couleurs.

Les oeuvres de Georges ont toujours une signification très profonde, nous confrontant avec nous-mêmes; il est ouvert et réceptif à tout sujet; rien n'est "off limit" pour lui.
